Day Three - It just keeps getting better

Day Three
Well day three, didn’t go too badly. I had 6 Indians show up and Justo makes 7. They grabbed the shovels, picks, can and chain saw and headed up the hill to PL. I had to run up to the local hardware store and pick up the wheel barrow that I had been too tired to pick up yesterday. Sitting in front of the store at 7:15 and waiting for it to open I saw a guy show up who had helped me before and asked what time they opened (even though painted on the outside of the store it said 7:30). He smiled and said 8. I laughed and pointed at the sign he laughed too then walked over to a mango tree growing on the edge of the hardware store and started throwing rocks at it hitting the mangos and showers of them dropped to the ground. About 20 minutes later the owner of the hardware store who I know showed up and I explained that I needed a wheel barrow and would come back later when they were open and pay him. He nodded and smiled and I grabbed the wheel barrow and threw it in my van and went to PL. On the way up seeing the start of the trails and bridges from the day before I just smiled seeing the progress and using my imagination to see the completed project. We installed another 2 more bridges today and another 16 meters of switchback trails. I had Justo’s brother show up at 12 and we talked some. He wanted more money and I just wasn’t going to pay any more than we had a deal for which was .10 a ft. We smiled as we parted. Later the weather was really getting nice the sun was shinning and going into the shade of the jungle it almost gave you goose bumps, I decided to head to my van and get my camera a 1 km (.6 of a mile) walk each way. Once I got to my van I drove to Mario’s to talk to him for a bit about one, the wood cutting and two, just cause I had not talked to him in a while since he had been really busy and traveling a lot. I was glad I did. Talking to Mario and telling him about what was going on we started sharing ideas and I told him I wanted to use crushed palm for the decks of the bridges. He said that was a great idea and how come you didn’t use palm for the beams for the bridges too. Duh! We have lots of palm on PL and there would be no problem using it, the palm he is talking about is so hard they also use it for building docks in the water and it holds up for 20 years. It also grows fast so will replace itself quickly. Life is good - little by little we are going to make this happen.

This palm is 35' long - way to go guys!

This is the "green" season - winter -according to some local authorities. The other season from November to April is the "dry season; or so we've heard.

Driving in the post

Make sure you get that post in deep guys. It needs to hold up to the occasional torrential tropical rains.

An Early Guest to Punta Linda - taking a rest.
Don't worry guys just go around me!
